Information for Municipal Elections

Municipal Election – August 26, 2025; Run-off (if necessary) September 23, 2025

Qualification period – Tuesday, June 10, 2025 through Tuesday, June 24, 2025

Qualifications to run for Municipal Office

1. You must be 18 years of age and a qualified elector (registered voter)

2. You must have lived in the city and in the district for the seat you seek for a minimum of 90 days prior to the election, and must remain a citizen of the city and of the district you represent for the term of office.

3. You must pay the qualification fee or file an affidavit of indigency – Mayor -$50, Council-$25

4. You must file a Statement of Economic Interests form with the Alabama Ethics Commission within five (5) days of becoming a candidate or the name cannot be placed on the ballot.

Any candidate who raises or expends $1,000 must establish a campaign committee with the Secretary of State. This includes personal funds spent by the candidate. Campaign funds should be held separately from personal funds. From the beginning candidates should record every donation, including personal donations to your own campaign, and every campaign expenditure. Receipts for each expenditure should be kept. Once the $1,000 threshold is met, all donations and expenditures must be reported. Donation information should include the doner, the doner’s address, and the amount of the donation. Expenses should include, the vendor, vendor address, and amount of the purchase or expense.
